The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) says it will place a ban on the WikiLeakes provided the government orders it.

A top PTA official said it has not received any direction from the the ministry of IT in this regard. There were rumours that the PTA was going to place a ban on the WikiLeakes after the US and some other countries did so.

Meanwhile, a petition was filed today in the Lahore High Court, seeking ban on WikiLeakes as its cables are aimed at causing anarchy in the country.

Advocate Arif Gondal in his petition with the Lahore High Court said that WikiLeakes “so-called” revelations were made deliberately in order to create differences among the Muslim countries and anarchy in Pakistan.

“These are aimed at destroying the peace of Pakistan and defaming all institutions like that of army and important personalities,” he said.

Mr. Gondal prayed the court to impose immediate ban on the website in Pakistan.
