University of Punjab’s Student wins Online Debate Contest

University of Punjab’s student Syed Ghulam Muhyuddin has won the first prize of worth Rs 75,000 in the online debate contest held at Latif Ebrahim Jamal (LEJ) National Science Information Centre, Karachi University (KU).

Afnan Mehmood Malik of Mirpur University of Science and Technology got second prize of Rs 50000 and Muhammad Azam ofUniversityofSarghodaobtained third prize of Rs 25000.

A One-Day All Pakistan Inter University Virtual Debate Contest through Video Conferencing to all universities’ students of Pakistan. Students from as many as 35 Universities of the country participated in the contest, held on December 19, 2011, while 140 Public and Private sector universities were invited for the contest.

Renowned poet Dr. Fatima Hassan was the chief guest on the occasion, while Chairperson Department of Urdu, KU, Dr. Uzma Farman Farooqui and Dr. ShakeelurRehman Farooqui of Department of Genetics were included in the jury.

Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Director International Centre for Chemical Sciences (ICCBS), KU was also present on the occasion, and delivered the welcome speech.

The objective of the event, which was unique in its type in the country, was to introduce the video conferencing facility to all the students of Pakistan, as Higher Education Commission has already established the Video Conferencing Facility in more than 70 Public Sector Universities and institutes.
